About Us.

Humble History.

The Elu Children Care (ECC or elucca) was found by Erasto Luanda, a native Tanzanian who studied philosophy and community development in Ireland and Nairobi. In the course of that time, he worked with street children and was able to establish a warm relationship with them which led him to question the whole educational system in his own country. He realized that few children had the opportunity to really develop their potentials in classes with 50 to 100 children, taught in Swahili throughout the primary schools and then exclusively in English in high schools.

So he began to teach a small group of children in a rented facility in the town of Morogoro, an initiative which found support from an elder friend and led to the building of a school which today has a kindergarten and 10 classes with 250 pupils.

Class sizes are 25 children per class, medium of instruction is English and the children are taught in a caring environment. There are many children from poor circumstances, including several orphans in almost each class, but the school has moved from strength to strength and today enjoys state recognition. However, all development still has to be financed privately, and as the school is now trying to build a high school, which is a costly undertaking, it needs a great deal of support.

The school task is to work hard and use every shilling and every dollar from different sources, including donations, to put more buildings and expand its capacity to accommodate more children. The school is planning to build a big and modern library with the capacity to accommodate more children. This will cost the school around $300, 000.00 to $400.000.00 (three to four hundred thousand US dollars). It is also the plan of school to build laboratory, clinic and more dorms for increasing children who live on campus. Thanks to IDEM-Work Camp of Germany and Japan, for supporting the school building kitchen and dining room. The old dining room was able to accommodate only 50 children, but now 330 children will sit and eat in the new dining room when it will be finished. Thanks also to Clear Vybz Production of Texas for their support to the school.

The school promises to offer many opportunities to really get to know the local people, working side by side.

Programs & Classes     Why does ECC exist?     ECC Community

    ECC Programs and classes include:

The academic program, where the school follows a
government syllabus for the pupils to sit for national     exams.

ECC moreover established its own main subject     known as Personal Touch (PT) where pupils and     Uncles/ Aunts share their personal opinions and     experiences of life in the class.

There are also classes like carving, painting, and     music that provide the participants a forum to share     their skills with others.

Games and sports, debates, and picnics are part of     the school programs.

School staff seminars -- a school tradition.

It is also ECC’s custom to invite friends from outside     to share life experiences through work camp.

ECC came into existence after experiencing:

There is a growing risk of human identity losing its     value.

Corruption and selfishness among people in societies.
The presence and the increase of hatred among     people in the world.

The trend of thought based on overly functionalistic     approach, which challenges the system of education     in Tanzania that, unconsciously, encourages superior     and inferior feelings among the people.

The school community is composed of pupils,     school staff, and parents:

The pupils share life experiences with parents at     home, and with the school staff at school.

The ECC staff members work in communal basis with a     distribution of responsibilities, such as teaching,     cooking, driving, and secretarial work just to name a     few.

Parents contribute and share their life experiences     through general parents meetings and parents school     committee with school staff
